Meeting called to order at 6:05pm
Introductions and recap of meeting format (Robert’s Rules)

  • Mike shares updates on infrastructure priorities and progress in our area, Devon Middle
    new build is still at top.
  • There is a need for increased industrial arts programs and facility capacity; possible a
    wing addition if the province was to own the property,
  • The recent move towards amalgamation of committees (DECH,PSSC etc) is on pause
    with the change in Education minister.
  • Also, waiting on clarification on rumours of change/elimination of French Immersion
    program in the Anglophone sector.
  • Members have open discussion on setting goals of the PSSC; to include promotion of
    financial literacy in the curricula, Mindfulness and Mental Health in the education
    system. Create community connections in the sense of specialized talks and connecting
    for internships/placements.
  • PSSC members discuss connecting with other PSSC’s to feel out what goals and
    directions they are prioritizing.
  • Kendra gave the principal’s report highlighting the goal of having an “Emotional,
    Physical and Intellectually Safe” school environment.
    Items also included some of the proposed changes for high schools currently being
    piloted (Grade 10 will begin to have more choice in course selection as example).
    Multiple pathways for students to achieve goals, reach credits with potential to fast
    track.
    Creating a Path for Truth; part of the curriculum in the Language Arts block, 14 week
    component.
    There is now a dedicated Social Worker based at the school to help facilitate and direct
    case loads and be a connector for the school with outside supports (intervention team).
    Differentiated between EST (Educational Support Teacher) and EAL (Educator of
    Additional Languages).
  • Mike shared that there is an Education summit on the November 25/26 and suggested
    some of us attend.
  • Discussion on some items that will be added for the next meeting to include PSSC
    budget, SIP review and some additional info (EA allocation, PBIS, Staff numbers)
    Motion to adjourn the meeting with next meeting set for November 15 at 6pm.
